We offer the following Dutch courses and lessons: Basic Dutch, Intermediate Dutch, Advanced Dutch, & Dutch Conversation course, and Private Dutch Lessons. More information about registration and assessment can be found here.

Private Dutch Lessons

Learn Dutch one-on-one with a Dutch tutor.

Prerequisites

Instructions during the course will be given in Dutch and English. Sufficient knowledge of is English is required.

Main objective

The main objective of the Private Dutch Lessons is to learn to communicate in Dutch whether it is on A1, A2, or B1 level. All skills are developed: speaking, listening, reading, and writing. To this end, attention is given to such matters as grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation. Reading and writing skills are mostly practiced in the time allotted for self-study.

Your specific learning goal

After registration, you schedule an intake assessment with Rosanne. Your current level of Dutch will be assessed, your learning wishes will be mapped and, and a specific learning goal will be identified in order to provide private lessons that fit your needs best. Rosanne will explain her advice and you will receive more information about the contents and procedure of the private lessons.

The structure of the private lessons are based on the Basic, Intermediate, or Advanced Dutch courses and are paced according to your needs.

Practical information

Classes on: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday mornings or afternoons. After the intake assessment a schedule is agreed with you and your tutor on a flexible basis depending on availability and needs.

Number of lessons: An initial 5 or 10 lessons are advised to start with regardless of your Dutch level. After finishing the initial lessons, additional 1, 5, or 10 lessons can be selected to continue with the Private Dutch Lessons.

Duration of each lesson: 1.5 hours.

Number of students: One student per tutor.

Language during the course: Dutch and English.

Location: Zoom video.

Teaching method

The accredited teaching method we use is Contact! nieuw 1, 2, or 3 (depending on your Dutch level). It is developed by Radboud in’to Languages, the center of expertise for language and communication of Radboud University Nijmegen.

Course material

  • Digital version Contact! nieuw 1, 2, or 3 (text- and workbook)
  • Or paper & digital version Contact! nieuw 1, 2, or 3 (text- and workbook)

Tuition

  • Private Dutch Lessons: $50 per lesson.

Included in the tuition of one course:

  • Online lessons taught by a Dutch tutor.
  • Availability of the tutor during the week, for questions.
  • Additional learning materials besides Contact! nieuw.
  • Lessons will be recorded for reviewing at a later time.

Excluded in the tuition of one course:

Contact! nieuw 1, 2, or 3 text- and workbook. The license for the digital version is approximately €43.00 or $50.00 and will be valid for 14 months. You may purchase a paper & digital version of Contact! nieuw 1, 2, or 3 but it costs more due to the material and shipping costs. If you already purchased the books for a Dutch course, then you don’t have to purchase it again.

Registration & assessment

After placement with a tutor, you will be provided order information for Contact! nieuw, and you will receive tuition payment information.

In short, to start Private Dutch Lessons there are five successive steps:

  1. Register for Private Dutch Lessons.
  2. Have an intake-assessment by phone.
  3. Final placement with a Dutch tutor.
  4. Order a Contact! nieuw 1, 2, or 3 text- and workbook.
  5. Pay the tuition fee.
